Applications:

Coaxial balun is used to connect 3270 category A devices ( which are usually equipped with coaxial plug ) using unshielded twisted pair cabling. They are used to replace coaxial cable with low cost twisted pair to build up a lan. This balun provides an impedance match from balanced 100 ohm UTP cable to unbalanced 93 ohm cable.

It allows maching an an IBM 3270 with BNC male or female connection to an RJ45 cabling system.
